California Beans and a Pace Salsa Giveaway

I’m a salsa girl.  I love salsa on everything.  But I’m pretty particular about my salsas and usually whip up my own.  But there is one salsa that I’ve fallen in love with…Pace.    I mean, when Cook’s Illustrated, who I consider to be a real authority on food, even tells you that Pace Salsa is [...]

Dads have the memory of an elephant…with amnesia

Hubby is a loving, doting father who challenges them to wrestling matches on the floor, shows them how to fix a leaky gasket and even teaches our little princesses how to burp the alphabet then gives congratulatory knuckles when they succeed.

Blondies on my birthday

What age do you have to be before birthdays aren’t a big deal? Sure, you don’t have the year long countdown you had when you were 7, but everyone hopes for a little pampering or kind well wishes. The part I think we struggle with is getting a year older. I am [...]

50 Pasta Salads…just in time for summer

Because man cannot live on Macaroni Salad alone.

Baby Greens with Berries, Candied Almonds and Panko Crusted Chèvre Medallions

Yes, read that right.  No, you’re not at Martha’s site.  See, we had friends over for dinner.  You know how that is…when you pretend that you eat like this every day. GUESTS: “Nice salad.” YOU: “What? This old thing? Why, as we told our perfectly darling children just yesterday as we were eating  Sauteed Foie Gras [...]

Oatmeal Cookies are like Rodney Dangerfield

Oatmeal Cookies are the Rodney Dangerfield of the cookie community. They just don't get no respect, ya know? They have a reputation as being bland, slightly boring attempts to pass off a healthy breakfast grain as a dessert. But just try this recipe.

Chicken Churrascaritas is spicy ‘n sweet

I love the Food Network. It's totally an American thing. Only in America could a red-headed, freckled Irish Opie-lookalike like Bobby Flay be known for appearing on TV as an expert in spicy Tex-Mex cooking.

I’m Fond of Fond - The Best Onion Soup Ever

It makes great use of fond. Fond, as many of you know, is French for "that really tasty stuff that's stuck to the bottom of your pan, you uncivilized American!"

Seafood Avocado Salad reminds you that summer is still coming

Feeling like winter is beating you over the head with a snow shovel? Try this.

About Me:
I work for a web design firm. I used to sing for a living and have more stories about shocking wedding receptions, crazy studio musicians and drunken fools than I have time to tell.

I'm married to a wonderful man who eats everything and anything and still loses 3 pounds (he wears the same jeans from HIGH SCHOOL! AGH!). We have two beautiful, precocious, annoying, lovely children (plus a rescued mutt and kitten.)

I was the family cook from age 7 up and have learned through trial and error. (My little brother used to cry at the dinner table because my grilled cheese was black and hard as a rock. Poor kid.) I've gotten a little better. I've started to enjoy entering local cookoffs lately and have surprisingly won a few. Take that, inedible grilled cheese! :)

How to Make Girl Scout Samoa Cookies

If you, dear reader, have ever been a Girl Scout, you will understand when I say that selling cookies is serious. How well I remember racing down the street against fellow Brownie Brenda Walesky as we both fought to get to Mrs. Johnson’s house first because she always bought 30 boxes of cookies and froze them but then I tripped on my shoelace and fell ripping my Brownie sash which had like three badges already and getting my new Brownie beret covered in dirty slush and crying because Brenda Wale… Continue

Crusted Poblano Burgers

Ok, so I’m all, let’s have burgers, and my husband is all, I had burgers for lunch, but I’m all, yes, but these are not your average burgers, these are Crusted Poblano burgers, at which point my husband kind of makes a face at the word “crusted” because it can be associated with things that aren’t necessarily appetizing. But in this case, oooh, mama! Because it has poblanos which are one of my favorite foods to cook with. You should have seen him devour this burger and tell me that I could sell… Continue
