I don't have much to contribute here but I'm reading with deep interest. I am still learning and all this discussion is really helpful. I'm going to keep reading along.

Lighting is one of biggest problems. We have horrible lighting in this house and the windows are small, with covered porches on the outside so no sunlight really comes through.

Another flaw is decor. I am not good a setting a background or dressing a plate at all for the photo. I would really like tips in that department.
