How to feed a cat to a kid OR Yummy Halloween Cat Cookies

More easy peasy Halloween treats for your little goblins.  And the best chocolate cookie dough recipe ever.

Apple Cider Dressing and the John Madden playbook

Oh, apple cider, how do I love thee? Seriously, I even love it when it ISN’T distilled! That’s how much I love apple cider.  I’m always looking for ways to throw it into recipes.  So as I was making a salad the other day, I thought it would be a great topper for a [...]

Apple Wontons with Caramel Sauce

Caramel apples are one of my favorite treats.  But, speaking as someone who wore braces for 9 years (let’s just say my nickname was Snaggletooth and leave it at that), I didn’t get to enjoy the caramel apple much during my childhood.  You haven’t really lived until you’ve tried prying caramel out of metal braces.  [...]

BOO! White Chocolate Pretzel ghosties for little monsters

You know how you see these holiday specials that show how to make treats for Halloween but they show it to you the DAY before Halloween (I'm not mentioning names...MARTHA!).  Well, how is THAT supposed to help me?  Unlike you (MARTHA!) I don't have 30 yards of muslin, 2 pounds of fresh truffles and a container of edible gold dust in my closet unlike some insanely rich entertaining guru who has a full time staff, show and a magazine but shall remain nameless.

Do the twist with Homemade Pretzels

You know those mall pretzels you got last time you were there?  Well, these aren't it.  But they're close.

It’s official. School is now my second job.

When did school become a second job for parents?  Is it just ME!?

Magic Zucchini Carbonara can make your zucchini disappear!

Just five ingredients:  Zucchini, butter, Parmesan, eggs and pasta will make your zucchini disappear!  It's like magic, but without the tacky costumes.

I’m Blissfully Domestic…are you?

Starting today, Blissfully Domestic, of which I am now a cooking contributor (ahem!), is relaunching.  If you a woman, you’ll find something of interest in this new online mag.  Whether you’re a fashionista or a bookworm, a techie or a handcrafter, there’s something for you here.  It really is a one-stop shop for all the [...]

Neat Joes and a Dancing Chicken

So you like Sloppy Joes, right?  Who doesn't?  (Well, ok, I see you raising your hand, but I also see that you collect those freakish Marie Osmond "Little Elvis" dolls, so how can we trust your opinion?) But Sloppy Joes + Young Kids = Dog gets extra dinner.  What to do?  Well, rest easy, chickens.  Francie is coming to your rescue with my Neat Joes and they couldn't be simpler.

Georgia Peach Muffins are peachy keen!

These Peach Muffins are the best muffins I've had in years.  Run, don't walk to make them before the fresh peaches are gone.

About Me:
I work for a web design firm. I used to sing for a living and have more stories about shocking wedding receptions, crazy studio musicians and drunken fools than I have time to tell.

I'm married to a wonderful man who eats everything and anything and still loses 3 pounds (he wears the same jeans from HIGH SCHOOL! AGH!). We have two beautiful, precocious, annoying, lovely children (plus a rescued mutt and kitten.)

I was the family cook from age 7 up and have learned through trial and error. (My little brother used to cry at the dinner table because my grilled cheese was black and hard as a rock. Poor kid.) I've gotten a little better. I've started to enjoy entering local cookoffs lately and have surprisingly won a few. Take that, inedible grilled cheese! :)

Crusted Poblano Burgers

Ok, so I’m all, let’s have burgers, and my husband is all, I had burgers for lunch, but I’m all, yes, but these are not your average burgers, these are Crusted Poblano burgers, at which point my husband kind of makes a face at the word “crusted” because it can be associated with things that aren’t necessarily appetizing. But in this case, oooh, mama! Because it has poblanos which are one of my favorite foods to cook with. You should have seen him devour this burger and tell me that I could sell… Continue

Chopped Ugly Salad is pretty on the inside

So I’m walking through the store and these tomatoes catch my eye. Ugly Ripe Tomatoes are touted as having “just-picked” flavour out of season. Nothing compares to the taste of a just-picked tomato so I had to try it. I shelled out $3.40 for two tomatoes (!) to make a salad. It has Ugly on the label so as not to confuse it with the Supermodel Tomato (which, sadly, has anger issues.)

You’… Continue
